A Twink Death Survivor is somebody who has put a complete night behind him: the queue, the heat, the peak, the closing and, at the very end, the coat check. Five stations, each with its own particular insult, none of them skippable — the coat check least of all. The status isn't awarded by anyone. It settles in on its own around six.
The condition afterwards is well documented. Body at twelve percent, voice at four, dignity classified, serotonin pending. The hair has found a shape of its own. The phone has three percent and forty photos, two of which are usable. The way back takes twice as long as the way there, and the jacket smells of fog for three days.
Then, at the door, the sentence that makes a survivor a survivor lands anyway: "After?" Not really meant as a question, more as a proposed appointment. The answer to it is rarely no; usually it's a time. Whoever says it hasn't got through the night. He has extended it.
AT TWINK DEATH
What we celebrate is the status, not the exhaustion. Staying until the lights proves nothing beyond stamina, and stamina counts here regardless. Going earlier costs you none of it. The title is free of charge and can't be bought either.
