Where the Word Comes From
The word has circulated in English-speaking gay scenes since the 1970s, moving through personal ads and film titles before landing in dating apps. There's no clean etymology — just guesses ranging from an American candy brand to older bar slang. What stuck is a short label for a place that needs short labels: a profile, a bar order, a search bar.
A Description, Not a Checklist
Online, the description has hardened into a checklist: age, weight, smooth skin, plus a felt-out expiration date. That's exactly where the term tips over. A stereotype is not a dress code, and a body type is not an admission requirement. The difference is direction.
