Gay audacity describes a confidence the evidence gives you no grounds for. The body files for the end of the shift, the plan files for carrying on, and the plan wins. The term comes out of queer internet culture and describes a recurring decision rather than a character trait.
The Available Evidence
Three hours of sleep. No voice left. Sunday afternoon, the daylight at an unhelpful angle, the fridge empty, last night still sitting in both legs. In exactly that condition somebody asks the question: "Should we go out again tonight?" Somebody always asks. Somebody always says yes.
Not To Be Confused With Arrogance
The difference is clean. Arrogance claims to be better than other people. Audacity claims nothing at all, it simply acts. There is no overestimation in it, only a refusal to take note of the facts, plus the quiet agreement that the bill arrives later and that later is a different person.
Nor is it recklessness. The point is not overlooking limits, it is ignoring exhaustion — a question of your own stamina that concerns nobody else. Which is why the term is nearly always used in hindsight, admiringly and in the third person: about the people you had written off by Sunday evening and then ran into anyway.

The definition on the second tile of this entry: "Confidence levels unsupported by available evidence." With us that is not a diagnosis, it is a description of the people who left at four and are back at the door the same night. The short form, as it gets said in the scene: "The audacity."
